Gambia's Minister of Interior, Hon. Seyaka Sonko has commended the Lagos State Government for it pioneer work in community policing through the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency.
*He gave credit to the Governor for his vision in having such a well structured outfit in the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency.*

Sonko said he hopes that this will be the beginning of another chapter in the long lasting relationship between the two countries.

According to the Hon. Minister; "Nigeria is the door while Gambia is the window, that if the door is reinforced and the window left unattended to, in no time the enemies will come through the window and will definitely get to the door, as security is everybody's business.... when you talked about security you must not fail to mention the safety aspect of it".

He however confirmed that Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency was highly recommended but meeting the team was a complete different kettle of fish that has further reinforced the commendations.

The Minister reiterated that Nigeria will remain a very good home for him and other people as he had been well treated during his visit adding that he was impressed..

The General Manager, LNSA Prince Dr Ifalade Oyekan fisn in his response said the Gambia was chosen for collaboration and support because of the influx of people coming to the country for being peaceful.

He emphasised that certain proactive measures must be put in place to prevent crimes and pointed out that the use of drugs is one of the key factors that push people to crime.

Oyekan stressed that this is a common ground where the two countries can share knowledge and experience through community policing tactics. "And we are here to share with you what we have in the area of community policing with all its advantages" He said.

He also introduced the establishment of a Security Trust Fund as a funding means to alleviate some of the financial issues whenever it arises to the Minister.

The General Manager expressed confidence that there are better days ahead for Gambia residents in the area of security, stressing that the Agency is fully prepared to deliver professional services.
